In 2021, with a sad heart the RBB shared in the grief surrounding the untimely death of our former chair, Mr. Eugene Jones,
who we lost during the pandemic. In 2022, as we embark on the one-year anniversary of his passing the State of Maryland, 21st District Delegation and County, Council Member Tom Dernoga, joined us in honoring Eugene.

Prince George's County declared March 11, 2022, Eugene A. Jones Day.

 
Mr. Jones, long-time resident of Beltsville, served as the eleventh Fire Chief of Prince George’s County Fire/EMS from his appointment in July, 2009, until his retirement as Fire Chief in December, 2010. Prior to his appointment, he had served the Prince George's County Fire Department for twenty-four years retiring at the rank of Major in 2007.

Mr. Jones joined the Morningside Volunteer Fire Department in 2015 and then transferred to the Silver Hill Volunteer Fire Department (VFD) in 2019. In 2019, Mr. Jones continued serving the residents of Beltsville by joining the Office of Council Member Tom Dernoga, District 1. At the time of his death, he was the Assistant Chief at Silver Hill VFD and Senior Constituent Services Aide with the Office of Council Member Tom Dernoga, District 1.

Mr. Jones is survived by his mother, wife, one son and two daughters and many other beloved relatives.
